When Tim travels for work, the kids and I deeply miss him. Thanks to technology, however, we can stay connected. We often use FaceTime when he is away. And while they love seeing Dad on the screen, what they are most interested in is getting a virtual tour of his hotel room.
To surprise Tim with a different kind of real-time communication, the kids and I planned an outing to Canal Park that included hand-painted signs and the Lake Superior Maritime Visitors Center’s live web cam.
We called Tim and told him to go to the web cam URL. To his surprise, we were being live streamed on his computer screen. To his delight, the kids held up their signs with glee.
It was a fun way for the kids to express their feelings and keep Dad close at heart.
And a delightful way to enjoy the quiet canal in the winter.
Update: Our love was felt across the state. Here is a message that was posted on the LSMMA’s Facebook page.
Love the webcam! About 4:00 this afternoon we noticed a mom and her two kids in Canal Park holding up and waving signs on cardboard saying “we miss you” and “heart you Dad.” I don’t know who you are but thanks for adding a heartwarming moment to our day here in St. Cloud…So sweet! ~Mary
