Duluth has many rivers and streams that run through it. You likely have hiked along them, but have you hiked IN them?
Tim put hiking in the Lester River on our family summer fun list.
It was both thrilling and relaxing.
The kids got a kick out of feeling the water rush through their legs. It was a great opportunity to practice balance and develop those large leg muscles…for everyone in the family!
Yes, there were a few places that required holding hands. I’m glad we chose to hike the river during the fall rather than during the raging waters of the spring.
Being in the river, rather than along side it, allowed us to explore a beaver dam from a different perspective. Cool science.
There are several very small, gravel parking areas along Lester River Road where you can access the river. We parked in the last area on the left as you head north (going up the valley). If you come upon a private driveway, you went a bit too far. We tried to get to the river at another pull-off, but it was too steep of a decline for us. Be open to doing a bit of exploring to find the right access point for your family.
