One of our family values is to be “thankful and kind.”
Every night at dinner, we go around the table and each say what we are most thankful for that day.
Finley usually opens her arms wide and answers, “This wonderful dinner with the whole family.”
I am always struck with how present and profound that answer is.
We then ask, “Did you see anybody do something kind today?”
Tim and I hope these daily discussions remind each of us that thankfulness and kindness are part of our everyday life.
Today, I am thankful for the amazing people, organizations, and businesses that make up the community fabric of Duluth.
In particular, I’m thankful for Moms & Dad’s Today magazine, a local parenting publication.
They recently invited our family to be featured, which means we were interviewed and photographed (at Brighton Beach, one of our family’s favorite spots).
The process was fun, especially the “spring” photo shoot in February when it was 15 degrees outside.
The best part, though, has been the kind response from others.
We received a handwritten note from an aquaintance thanking us for sharing our story as it inspired their family to return to the outdoors to help ease a difficult time in life.
I received many emails from friends who detailed how our story resonated with them.
Perhaps my favorite experience, likely because it was the least expected, was the morning I got a call from our local auto mechanic who saw the article, recognized us, and wanted to say he enjoyed reading it.
How kind is that?!
If you are interested, you can read the article online on the Moms & Dads website and find out a bit more about our family values.
If you are unfamiliar with the publication, it is worth browsing through for the parenting articles and local resources.
