Did you get inspired? Did you get involved? Did you get outside? I started this blog, Outside In Duluth, to share our passion for being outside with our kids in and around Duluth, MN.
Here are the top 10 posts most viewed by readers (from 56 countries!) in 2014.
As a thank you for following our outdoor adventures, I’ve included a peek into the behind-the-scenes for each post.
We had a ball trying to find the exact location Outside magazine used for their cover photo (we never found it, but we were close) because it was lightly snowing on that November day.
This was the hardest post to write. Trying to put such sadness into words was tough.
As we walked along Glensheen’s darkened paths in search of our jack-o-lanterns aglow among the thousand of others, Finley’s spotted hers along a rock wall ledge and unexpectedly tried to give it a hug, nearly starting a chain reaction of downed pumpkins.
While this experience was just a quick stop while out running errands, it has stayed in the kids’ memories. When going down any steep street in Duluth, Finley still asks, “Mom, is this the steepest street?
I was gratified recently when a man introduced himself and said that the videos of Daley learning to ski inspired him and his wife to take their 5-year-old daughter to the Chester Bowl Ski School this year. Yahoo!
There are no words for how much our children enjoyed the progressive picnic. This video, however, will give you a clear sense of Finley’s delight.
While the destination of each playground brought much joy, it was the journey to each that I cherish. For example, we ate fresh fruit at a farm stand on our way to Laura MacArthur and explored a boat dock along the St. Louis River on our way to Stowe.
This experience is typical of our family hikes: pick a location, pack a picnic, and just be together in nature. No technology. No time constraints. No plans.
I love this idea because it brings together local kids literature, local history, and a beautiful local park. All outdoors. Nothing better!
This post is my favorite because the experience was so organic. We went to lower Chester to pass time while our car was being serviced at 4th Street Auto Repair. I originally thought I would write about the park, but the kindness displayed stole the show.
