Perhaps we didn’t pick the best day with wind gusts of 20+ mph to set out on an alphabet tour of Canal Park.
Our goal was to walk around Canal Park and hunt for objects that corresponded with each letter of the alphabet. As we walked, somebody would yell out the first letter of the word and then we would take a picture with the letter card.
We quickly learned that the letter cards were easily wind-blown. In fact, we lost the F when the wind ripped it out of Daley’s hands. While I was disappointed as we watched it sink in the canal, the kids said, “No problem, Mom. We can make an F with our bodies.”
And so they did.
Most of the letters were quite easy to find, but a few gave us a challenge. For example, Q, U, X, and N, of all letters, stretched our creativity (see photos below).
It was fun to explore an area of town we know well through a different lens. After we got home, we printed and laminated each of the photos to create our own Canal Park alphabet deck.
