“Mom, you need to blog about this! People will want to do this,” advised Daley during a Vista Fleet boat tour of Duluth’s harbor.
I had learned about “$5 Tuesdays” while researching an article I wrote for Moms and Dads Today (Be a Tourist in Your Own Town), our local parenting magazine.
Every sightseeing cruise that the Vista Fleet offers on Tuesdays is only $5 per person. With that kind of deal, we couldn’t resist a Tuesday afternoon cruising on Lake Superior.
Daley was thrilled that the tour goes under the lift bridge, as we had never before experienced the bridge from that vantage point. Finley, however, when asked what other kids might like to know about the tour, warned that the horn is loud. Fortunately, the Vista Fleet captain announced that the customary “long-short-short” horn blasts, a way to say thank you to the bridge operator for lifting the bridge, were coming so we had plenty of time to cover our ears.
After the tour took us out to Lake Superior, we headed back into the bay. The view of the Duluth hillside in the summer was beautiful.
An unexpected bonus for Daley — a big-machine-loving kid — was getting a close look at the dock areas with the different heavy machines.
It’s worth a few bucks to take a Vista Fleet Sightseeing Tour on a Tuesday. Thanks, Vista Fleet, for making such fun affordable for families.
Tip: I ordered our tickets online as I had heard that $5 Tuesdays often sell out quickly. As is often the case, there was an “online convenience” fee, so the total price was a few dollars more than expected. However, when we checked in, I learned that if you buy tickets over the phone or from the store, there is no fee. For more info, call the Vista Fleet at 218-722-6218.
