Lincoln Park is another one of Duluth’s wondrous places for kids. Here are the 4 reasons our family found it a perfect outdoor adventure.
1. The trail along Miller Creek, which has several waterfalls, is only 1.5 miles long with a gentle slope, making it quite doable for little hikers.
2. Elephant Rock, an enormous, out-of-place boulder, is the perfect “rock climbing” structure for little climbers. Daley especially enjoyed climbing the crack.
3. A natural waterslide formed by a large, flat area of rock in the creek is just beyond the pavilion. It provides natural slip-n-slide fun. We may have missed it had a very nice boy from Superior, who was in the neighborhood visiting his grandma, not introduced us to the idea. It didn’t take long for Finley to join the fun despite the fact that we didn’t have swimsuits (should have followed our own advice: 10 Items Every Family Should Have in Their Car).
4. The playground offers traditional physical fun. Even though they all seem the same to me as an adult, the kids are always thrilled to play on a new one.
What kid wouldn’t love to hike, rock climb, hydroplane, and play on a playground all in one place?
There is a parking lot at 25th Avenue West and 3rd Street at the Lincoln Park playground from which you can access the trailhead. However, we parked along Lincoln Park Drive near the top of the trail and hiked down, using the playground as our destination.
